Per Decatur Animal Services - - -  Which costs more in the long run – dog or cat?? Dogs tend to eat more since they are larger for the most part than cats. The dog also has to have more vaccinations than a cat because of Kennel Cough and Heartworms. If you have a breed of dog that needs constant grooming, that is also an expense. Some dogs also need professional obedience training. If you are a dog aficionado this is all worth the love, fun and devotion they give back. If you are more passive and don’t want to spend as much on a pet that loves you and loves to be on your lap then the Kitty is for you.
